CERONAV inaugurates state-of-the-art firefighting and GWO training facility

On the 12th of May 2025, the Romanian Maritime Training Centre – CERONAV completed its newest training infrastructure: a cutting-edge firefighting training facility and a GWO training tower, marking a major milestone in the organization’s ongoing efforts to modernize and expand its training capabilities.

The project, initiated in late 2022, comprises a two-storey firefighting facility with a ground footprint of 237.43 square meters and a total built area of 415.79 square meters. Complementing this is a 12-meter GWO (Global Wind Organization) training tower, specifically designed for practical exercises in all eight GWO-certified training courses. The tower features vertical ladders, winches, and protective equipment, replicating the high-altitude conditions encountered on wind turbines, and supporting essential rescue and recovery training.

A standout feature of the new training infrastructure is the Helideck simulator, completed with a helicopter model, designed to provide hands-on training in managing fires occurring during helicopter landing and take-off operations. The new facilities meet the highest international training standards, fully compliant with OPITO, GWO, and STCW regulations. The total investment amounted to 6,985,948.17 RON (excluding VAT).

“With this project, CERONAV now hosts the most modern maritime training center in Central and Eastern Europe. This development marks a strategic shift in our evolution and underscores our commitment to staying aligned with the current and future needs of the maritime, inland waterway, and offshore sectors. We aim to remain at the forefront of training excellence, driven by innovation and a deep understanding of industry demands” stated Dan Pisică, General Manager of CERONAV.

This investment represents CERONAV’s ability to anticipate the needs of the industry, but also a firm commitment to excellence, innovation and safety. The new training facility is both a technical and logistical success, and proof of the institution’s long-term vision – that of training top professionals, in an environment adapted to the requirements of the current and future market.
