CERONAV, as the lead partner of the LEARN4SEA project – Innovative joint learning for environmental-friendly behaviour of communities in the Black Sea Basin, participated in the anniversary event Interreg 35 – Interreg Romania, where it presented concrete solutions for transnational cooperation and innovation in the field of environmental protection in the Black Sea region.
CERONAV’s participation in this event was a distinct honour, as the institution was selected from among hundreds of beneficiaries that have implemented projects financed during the 18 years of Interreg programmes in Romania. This recognition highlights the quality of implementation, the example of good practices, and the long-term impact of the project.
CERONAV representatives presented the project’s objectives and progress in an interactive manner, starting from an essential idea: the desire for future generations to enjoy the sea and nature just as we do today, which makes environmental protection a shared responsibility.
During the GREEN panel, the project manager explained how research teams conducted measurements of water and air quality in coastal areas and at the mouths of the Danube and the Kamchia River. These activities used both equipment acquired through the Interreg GREEN DANUBE project and new sensors integrated into an international monitoring network. Data analysis formed the basis for the development of the Methodology for Assessing Air and Water Quality, an accessible, innovative, and easily replicable tool for authorities and specialists.
Two of the most appreciated components of the project are the floating drones used for water cleaning and the virtual reality (VR) educational materials that help children learn in an engaging way about environmental protection, waste sorting, and pollution prevention.
One of the CERONAV experts attending the event provided participants with VR equipment, giving them the opportunity to directly experience the digital materials developed by the project team. The interactive demonstration offered a tangible example of how technology can transform environmental education and was highly appreciated.
The VR materials are integrated into the network of Environmental Information Centres, designed as educational and awareness hubs for all age groups.
The presentation emphasised the importance of informal education, practical activities in schools and communities, and interactive methods that transform environmental protection into a collective effort. From VR demonstrations to educational games and clean-up actions, the project mobilises citizens to reduce pollution and adopt sustainable behaviours.
LEARN4SEA – a model of sustainable cooperation for a cleaner future
The project brings together environmental institutions, educational organisations, local authorities, and NGOs—five organisations from Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, and Türkiye—building a solid cooperation framework for reducing pollution and increasing awareness in the Black Sea region.
Alongside all participants at Interreg 35 – Interreg Romania, CERONAV demonstrated that effective solutions for environmental protection know no borders, and that community involvement can generate the wave of change needed for a cleaner environment and a more sustainable region.
